Behaviour change on any scale is very difficult to achieve. When this change involves a substance that raises one's level of endorphins, is legal and heavily promoted, the challenge is even greater. Just Think aims alter the notion that alcohol use by under 18's is acceptable and spread the understanding that alcohol is a toxic substance able to cause significant harm. By utilising a systems approach to under age alcohol use, the Just Think education program delivers its messages to students, parents and other adults in a variety of ways, links in with other community education and development initiatives such as Respectful Relationships and Communities that Care and uses AFL and local football to extend its reach as far as possible; 1,342640 (approximately) people to date in 2018.
The full day program takes place at the Deakin Community Cats Centre at GMHBA Stadium and operates weekly during school terms. Shorter, targeted sessions are delivered in local sports clubs and are available to other groups /organisations as requested via AFL Barwon, Barwon Child Youth & Family (BCYF) Alcohol and other Drugs program, Headspace, the School nurse program, Sports Education and Development Academy (SEDA), Diversitat and other associated networks.
The full day program is offered to year 8/9's for schools working with Communities that Care (Deakin Community Development program auspiced by BCYF). Other schools in the region are offered the program at a year 9 level
